Gospel of John

There’s a saying that goes along the lines of “just because we are alive does not mean we truly have life.” Life is so much more about breathing and our hearts beating. What does it mean to have life? How can one know?

The Gospel of John is vastly different than any of the other Gospels. Yet, the message is clear in that it is a proclamation of who Jesus is – the Son of God. It is through Jesus, that we may receive life. Just like how one goes to the car manual to understand our cars, we dig deep into the riches of the Bible to understand what it means to have life. Arguably, no other book in the Bible gives a clearer message than the Gospel of John. In John 20:31, the Apostle John writes, “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

Prayer isn’t about speaking to the air but a real conversation.

“Pray” is a 5-part series focusing on different prayers in the Bible. What does it mean to pray? What is prayer for? Who do we pray to? Why do we end with “amen”? You may be familiar with the saying that “Prayer is the engine room to the church.” Since that is true, we need to pray in order for our lives and church to move in God’s direction. Though we follow a God who can do all things, our prayers often don’t reflect that. The hope of this series is to gain a deeper understanding of prayer and to help us pray more powerfully, passionately and consistently.

This Is Us

What does it mean to be human? What separates us from any other living creature on this planet? According to ancient Israel, to be human is “to be made in the image of God.” Since we are made in the image of God, our view and understanding of God will greatly affect our understanding of ourselves as human beings. It could be argued, then, that as we move away from seeing ourselves as God’s image bearers, we will farther lose our identity. To move away as God’s image bearers is to dehumanize. Have you ever lost your job, had your application rejected or have your kids turn astray and felt entirely lost? As humans, we’re not defined by what we do, but who we are.

This 12-part series will explore who God made us to be. We’ll dig deeper into topics such as men and masculinity, women and femininity, singleness and marriage, and parenthood, then making a turn to further understand our emotions like joy, fear, sadness, anger, and disgust. As a church and a people of God, we need to know what makes us, us. Together, we will learn who God created us to be.

Our hope is for you to look at our church, humankind and our little blue planet differently and say, “This is who we are. This is us.”

The Art of Inviting

Everyone loves an invitation. Doesn’t matter what it is. It’s always nice to receive an invitation to a wedding, party, dinner, event, trip or to play golf. As people created in the image of God, we have been sent the greatest invitation – to be in communion and relationship with the Creator. Though we may have accepted this invitation, God also calls us to pass on the invite. As we’re being invited again and again to God’s house, we are called to invite others into His Kingdom and community too. We’re not meant to keep this Good News to ourselves, but to shout it from the mountaintops.

In this four-part series, we will sharpen our art of inviting through cultivating a missional heart, understanding community, living out our faith and learning from Jesus in how to invite.

You never know. Your friends and family could just be one invitation away from knowing Jesus. Our church could be one invite away from breaking through into our community.

Belong: A Place for You

At some point in our lives, we’ve probably felt what it’s like to not belong. Perhaps not outright rejection, but feeling left out and put to the side. Maybe it was at the playground. Maybe it was at dinner or a party. Maybe it was at school or your workplace. Maybe it’s even in your own family.  You might even feel this way at church.

In this sermon series, we’re going to explore what it means to belong to a community of believers – the body of Christ. What has God designed the church to be? What are we meant to experience? How can we grow to be a community? Going through select passages in the Book of Acts, we’ll learn how to be the church that God yearns for us to be!

No matter what you’ve experienced, there is a place for you.
