Small Group Fall 2016 Relaunch
Why Small Groups?
Small Group Ministry is an integral part of community here at Lord’s Love Church. Why? Community, in fact, is deeply rooted in the nature of God. The unity between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is the closest of any kind. We, too, were made for this kind community, and it is within community that we will grow – the early church exploded through small groups.
Our aim for our small groups is to provide the opportunity for people to engage in a biblical community that helps deepen their walk with Jesus. Small groups provide forward spiritual growth, accountability and help develop a missional identity. Small groups will be the arena in which you will do life together, experiencing teaching, fellowship, prayer and worship. Just like how seeds need to be nurtured in the right environment to grow, so are our relationships – with both God and each other. This will not just be another program, but our hope is for it to be a way of life. Because of that, your commitment to the 10 months (September 2016 – June 2017) is crucial for this growth to happen.
Why A Relaunch?
Though small groups have existed for the past 6 years at Lord’s Love, the leadership feels the ministry has drifted from its original vision and direction. Much like how a car needs a tune-up or the wheels realigned, so the time has arrived for our ministry. The questions before this relaunch were, “How can our small group ministry better love the people of our church?” and “Are we doing the best we can to cultivate community?” After much prayer, heavy research, attending workshops and many meetings, the relaunch is aimed to tighten and realign the ministry to our church’s vision. Small groups are meant to be an intimate setting where people can feel loved, pray, learn, share burdens and keep each other accountable. Anytime there is change, there will also be loss. Therefore we understand this may be difficult for some. But the road that lies ahead is an exciting one and we pray you will join us as we do life together!
In line with LLC’s vision of “To be a church compelled by Christ’s love”, this is our prayer:
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
How Will The Groups Work?
Small Groups for the Fall 2016 relaunch will be formed primarily on the availability that you provide in our survey. Please consider your overall availability from September 2016 to June 2017 (to the best of your ability).
Small groups will start off with a specific number of people for a specific time. Each group will:
- Be formed with 7-10 people in each group
- Meet for 3 terms from September to June.
- Term 1: September – November
- Term 2: January – March
- Term 3: April – June
- Have “off” months in December, July and August to give SG members the opportunity to join other church events.
If there are more than 10 people signed up for a certain slot, then two groups will be formed. There is no cap on the potential growth of each group which can grow through receiving newcomers, friends and family outside of our current church membership.
Leaders will only be in this role for a term (3 months) at a time, with the option of extending their role an additional term. The first term of each group will have a designated leader.
Small groups are encouraged to study the sermon series to assist in aligning their group with the vision and direction of the church.
We need your help!
The hope is that leaders will arise and take on the challenge of leading small group, with the support, orientation and training from Pastor Doug and the Small Group Ministry.
If as a leader you have suggestions for other resources (i.e. a certain Book in the Bible, or study series, our leadership would love to hear from you. Though we want unity, it does not signify conformity or homogeneity. But please do consult the leadership. Why? Though we are in different small groups, we together are going in one direction as a church. We would like to be on the same page to support and bless you at the same time!
Hoping to see you out at one of our small groups this Fall!
